CloudDrive by Amazon as a Global Personal Clipboard

CloudDrive by Amazon as a Global Personal Clipboard

For several years already we've been storing our files, using email, uploading-downloading pictures, and doing many other things online. So what is so special about doing pretty much the same but in the Cloud? Let's take a look at one of the most recent examples in Cloud applications - Amazon CloudDrive.

Those who have Amazon account (which is pretty much everyone) also get free 5 Gigabytes of Amazon storage. This space is not enough to turn CloudDrive into a free backup solution for your digital library. You can't share files that you upload to your CloudDrive with other people either. However the CloudDrive seems like a perfect tool for exchanging your own files between computers and devices on different networks.

Let's say you have personal pictures that are not for sharing on flickr or you have files that are too large for email. How to transfer them to another computer connected to a different network? Yes, you could use a USB drive but why bother when you can simply upload a file to the CloudDrive and then download it from another computer. Instead of emailing yourself pictures so you can see them on your phone, you can transfer them to the CloudDrive and then access them from your Android phone.

Another good thing about CloudDrive is that it's using HTTPS, a secure internet connection when you upload and download files to and from CloudDrive. This channel is protected from being intercepted by somebody else on the same network. This is a good benefit over regular email that can get exposed and intercepted when it travels from one hub to another until it reaches the destination.

This idea is definitely not new and been around for some time. Many people are familiar with services like DropBox and YouSendIt. However with CloudDrive Amazon reaches out to much wider audience of users.
